In New Zealand, companies who choose to offer Long Service Leave to employees, can also use this setup process.
Setting Up Long Service Leave
The calculations for this example are based on a 38 hour week working 7.6 hours per day and made as follows:
- Total entitlement is 8.6667 weeks being equivalent to 43.3335 days broken down as follows:

- Navigate to and open the Entitlements screen (MPPP3300).
The Entitlements Screen appears. - Click + and enter the relevant fields:
- Trigger Date: Enter the relevant date from which the entitlement will accrue.
- Units: Select the required units.
Note: This example uses days however you could use other units such as hours. - At Period End: Select C/Fwd Balance this means that it will continue to accrue into the next period.
- Full Time Hours Per Year: Enter the full time hours per year.
- Leave: By clicking this checkbox, the LSL can be linked with leave accrual and leave taken pay items.
Payroll > Pay Item Configuration > Entitlements (MPPP3300)
This means that after the first 7 years there will be Lump Sum entitlement added to the employee's record followed by an accrual of 13.0001 days over the next 3 years to ensure the entitlement equals 43.3335 days at the 10 year anniversary.
Then for every 5 years of service after the 10 year anniversary a further 21.6665 days is accrued.
It is also recommended that you reconcile your employees' LSL balances periodically and before LSL is taken or paid out, particularly if you were using more than one payroll system over the LSL accrual period, have had multiple payroll officers or your employee's hours of work have changed.
